Thermography
ABOVE, Within, Beneath, NOTHING LEFT UNSEEN
The problem: defects don’t announce themselves
A high-resistance electrical connection doesn’t trip a breaker until it’s already arced. A missing section of insulation doesn’t show up on a walk-through — it shows up on the power bill, six months later. A roof membrane failure doesn’t stain the ceiling until water has already tracked through insulation, timber and plasterboard.
By the time these problems are visible, the cheap fix has passed. Thermal imaging finds them while they’re still a line item, not a claim.
Site Matrix provides certified thermographic inspection across commercial construction, residential property and trade rectification support — combining Level 2 Infraspection certified handheld and aerial drone-based thermal imaging, backed by mechanical engineering oversight.
Delivered under Infraspection Institute Level 2 Certified Thermography, with reporting overseen by a Registered Professional Engineer (Mechanical); drone-based captures operate under CASA ReOC 9692.
Service area: direct thermography services currently operate across Victoria, with national coverage planned as the business scales.

The financial case for Thermography
Electrical
~17,000 structure fires recorded nationally in 2023–24 (AFAC); ~40% of NSW house fires attributed to electrical faults and appliances.
HVAC & piping
Infrared-led predictive maintenance is linked to 8–12% annual operating cost reductions.
Roofing & moisture
Water damage represents roughly 34% of property-related insurance claims among insured homeowners, ranging $5,000–$500,000 for the most severe cases.
Insulation
A fully insulated home can cut heating/cooling costs by 40–50% (Sustainability Victoria), typically paying for itself in 5–6 years — and wall/facade insulation can’t be visually verified once it’s behind cladding.
Side by Side Comparison
Thermal inspection vs. Waiting and seeing
Each pillar alone gives you a view. The Site Matrix Method maps the right combination of Above, Within and Beneath to what your structure actually requires.
| Item | Wait and see | Thermal inspection |
|---|---|---|
| Insulation gaps | Found via the power bill, months later | Found and located the same day |
| Electrical faults | Found when it trips or arcs | Found before it fails |
| Moisture ingress | Found when it stains the ceiling | Found while still inside the cavity |
Before the cold sets in
Thermal imaging relies on a genuine temperature differential to produce accurate results — it’s simply how the physics works. Book your inspection while conditions still give a clear read, rather than waiting until temperatures level out.

Your questions answered
Frequently Asked Questions
Does thermal imaging work in any weather or season?
No — a genuine temperature differential is required for accurate results, which is why timing (e.g. pre-winter, early morning/evening) is part of scoping, not an afterthought.
Can thermal imaging see through walls?
Not in the way often shown in media. Thermography detects surface temperature differences caused by what’s happening underneath — moisture, missing insulation, electrical resistance — which a certified thermographer then interprets correctly.
Do I need to be present during the inspection?
Not necessarily for residential; commercial engagements are typically scheduled with a site contact present for access and context.
What's included in the report?
Located, imaged and prioritised findings, plain-language explanations, and rectification recommendations where relevant.
Can you recommend someone to fix what you find
Yes — see the Trade Partner Program for licensed rectification referrals.
Can this support an insurance claim?
Thermography reports are commonly used to support insurance and warranty claims — check with your insurer on specific requirements before the inspection if a claim is anticipated.
