NDT - Non Destructive Testing
ABOVE, Within, Beneath, NOTHING LEFT UNSEEN
The problem: defects don’t announce themselves
Drone inspection tells you what a structure or asset looks like. Thermography tells you where heat, moisture or electrical anomalies are hiding beneath the surface. Non-destructive testing (NDT) answers the question both leave open: what’s actually happening inside the material itself.
Through our specialist NDT network, Site Matrix extends its condition-assessment capability to weld and structural integrity, concrete scanning, and corrosion or wall-thickness surveys — coordinated the same way as our drone and thermal work: engineering-led, single point of contact, one reviewed report rather than three disconnected findings from three vendors.
Every NDT engagement is scoped against the relevant Australian Standard, carried out by ASNT- or AINDT-qualified technicians from our accredited specialist network, and reviewed under CPEng oversight before it reaches you.
The inspection that pays for itself before you've had the invoice.
Why it matters
Visual and thermal inspection can flag where to look. They can’t tell you the extent of a defect, whether a weld will hold under load, or how much wall thickness a corroded pipe has left. That’s a materials-science question, requiring certified NDT methods to answer defensibly — for insurance, compliance, handover, or peace of mind before a costly rectification decision.

Side by Side Comparison
NDT vs. visual inspection alone
Each pillar alone gives you a view. The Site Matrix Method maps the right combination of Above, Within and Beneath to what your structure actually requires.
| Item | Visual inspection alone | NDT |
|---|---|---|
| Defect extent | Flagged, not measured | Measured and quantified |
| Weld/structural confidence | Assumed | Verified to the relevant Australian Standard |
| Decision basis | Guesswork | Defensible engineering data |
How It Works
Step 1 - Scoping Call
asset, defect concerns, access constraints, standard/compliance driver
Step 2 - Method selection
matched to the question you need answered, avoiding over-scoping.
Step 3 - Specialist deployment
an accredited NDT technician scheduled and coordinated with your site/shutdown timing
Step 4 - Testing & data capture
to the relevant Australian Standard
Step 5 - Engineering review
checked for consistency against drawings, specs and prior inspection history
Step 6 - Reporting & next steps
one consolidated report, plus a trade partner referral if rectification is needed
ABOVE, Within, Beneath, NOTHING LEFT UNSEEN
Engineering-led, not just coordinated
Our director holds a registered Professional Engineer (CPEng) status and sits on the National Engineering Register (NER), and that standard governs how every engagement — drone, thermal or NDT — is scoped, reviewed and reported. The technicians in our network hold the testing certifications;
Site Matrix holds the engineering accountability for how those results are interpreted and applied.
Who WE WORK WITH
Who this is for
- Commercial construction clients needing concrete scanning before penetrations, or weld verification
- Industrial / Service contractors and plant operators needing corrosion mapping, pipeline integrity checks, or shutdown-window testing
- Professional services partners — structural/civil engineers, building surveyors, project managers — needing one engineering-reviewed point of contact for NDT scopes within a wider project
Your questions answered
Frequently Asked Questions
Do you perform the testing yourselves?
Testing is carried out by ASNT/AINDT-qualified technicians in our accredited specialist network, coordinated and reviewed under RPEng oversight — you get one point of contact and one report.
Which standard does testing follow?
Every engagement is scoped against the relevant Australian Standard for the method and asset type; this is confirmed during the scoping call.
Can NDT be done without shutting down my site or equipment?
Many methods (e.g. remote visual inspection, some UT applications) can be scheduled around live operations; shutdown-dependent methods are coordinated with your maintenance window.
How is an NDT finding different from a drone or thermal finding?
NDT answers what’s happening inside a material — wall thickness, weld integrity — that visual or thermal inspection can only flag, not confirm.
What happens after testing?
A single consolidated report, engineering-reviewed, with a trade partner referral if rectification is required forms our deliverable.
